Tankless Water Heater have been used in Europe and Asia since the Second World War, but are  now coming into common use in North America. They are super efficient, space-saving products that — when installed properly — will last almost forever, cut your energy bill and supply unlimited hot water to your home. You can literally open up your tap, walk away, and still have hot water coming out a month later.
Tankless water heaters are small — usually not much bigger than an electrical panel. When you turn on a hot water tap, a burner in the unit lights up and instantly heats water in a maze of copper pipe. With the tap open, the water flows through the heated pipes, and within seconds, you have continuous hot water. When you turn off the tap, the burner goes off. The result is you don't have to heat and store 40 gallons of water in your basement any more. You only heat the water you use, and you have hot water for as long as you need it.
Properly installing a tankless system requires three things: making sure your gas line can handle it, ensuring that the capacity of the unit you buy is enough for your hot water needs, and locating it properly and safely in your home.
The big difference between tank and tankless systems is that, while a tank system supplies a large amount of hot water for a limited time, a tankless one provides a smaller amount of hot water limitlessly. That means that with a tank, you can open all your taps and get all the hot water you want until the tank runs dry. The supply is limited. With a tankless system, you can open taps to the capacity of the heater and you'll get nice, hot water for as long as you want, but if the demand on the system is beyond its capacity, your water goes lukewarm.
In fact, that's about the only thing that can go wrong with a tankless system, and that's not the fault of the system. It happens to customers who do not take the time to understand how a tankless system works, and then try to nickel and dime the installer and reduce the size of the unit.
The capacity of a tankless water heater has to be carefully calculated to ensure the system can handle the highest load you will put on it. The smaller tankless can only handle about one gallon a minute of hot water. That is the equivalent of one shower. If you have a family of five, and occasionally need to run two showers, a dishwasher and a washing machine at the same time, you'll have to buy a high-capacity tankless heater. If there are just two of you, a small tankless heater will probably serve your needs. Just don't turn on the dishwasher while someone else is in the shower!
Beyond the initial cost of a tankless system, the operating savings are very real. You will get your money back many times over if you plan to live in your house for a while.
And the system can solve another problem. If you are putting on an addition that includes a bathroom, it may make sense to supply the hot water with a tankless unit located right in the bathroom. It saves having to run another hot water line from the existing tank, and possibly having to increase the capacity of that tank. And tankless systems take up practically no space at all.

TK3-SP

 

The T-K3-SP model was designed for light residential applications.  This model can be used for special projects.

Released in 2008, the T-K3-SP is one of Takagi's residential tankless water heaters.  At 13.8 inches wide and weighing only 40 pounds, its ultra-compact design allows it to be mounted on a wall or installed between two wall studs using Takagi's TK-RBO1 recess box, so it's even more inconspicuous.

The T-K3-SP features a built-in power venting system and requires Category III venting or vent caps.

It can provide an unlimited supply of hot water continuously because there is no storage tank to heat and reheat. The T-K3-SP starts heating water at 0.5 gallons per minute (GPM), and can keep that endless supply of hot water running up to a maximum flow rate of 7.0 GPM.

The T-K3-SP also offers four separate temperature settings, ranging from 113 to 167 degrees Fahrenheit, so it does not require the use of a separate remote control.

 Unlike other Takagi models, the T-K3-SP is not linkable or direct vent convertible.

tk3The T-K3 model, also known as the "Revolutionary T-K3," is one of Takagi's most versatile and powerful residential units. The T-K3 offers Easy-Link capability, which allows you to connect up to four units without the use of a controller unit. The T-K3 can also be converted to a direct vent model.

There are many features that make this unit stand out from the rest:

Compact Size: Only 13.8 inches wide, the T-K3 can be recessed between wall studs for even more space savings! A special recess box is available for outdoor installations.

Lower Activating Flow Rate: The T-K3 activates at only 0.5 GPM, which allows the use of smaller water flows in bathroom sinks and showers. This reduces water waste and allows for stable temperatures.

Parallel Installation: Using Takagi's Easy Link technology, the T-K3 can be installed in parallel with up to three other units without the use of an additional control box, generating more flow while saving money, space and installation time. Four T-K3 unites will deliver a total of 21.6 GPM at 60 degrees F delta T; or 26 GPM at a 50 degree F delta T.

Direct-Vent Conversion: The T-K3 can be easily converted into a direct vent model for inside installations that need to import combustion air from outside.

Eight Temperature Settings: Instead of the usual four settings, the T-K3 offers eight separate temperatures, set by dip-switch: 104 degree F, 113 degree F, 122 degree F, 131 degree F, 140 degree F, 158 degree F, 176 degree F, and 185 degree F. This versatility reduces the need for a separate remote control. However, setting temperatures other than the eight presets requires the TM-RE10 temperature controller.

Longer vent runs: The T-K3 can have a vent pipe run up to 50 feet with five elbows, instead of the normal 35 with three elbows.

As you can see, the T-K3 incorporates all those "why-don't-you-have-this?" features into this one new product. Its larger flow capacity through parallel connections will meet the hot-water needs of most high-volume residential applications and many commercial projects, too. In short, the T-K3 fills the gap between the single residential heater and multiple commercial T-M1 units. Performance depends on the temperature of the ground water of course: At a delta T of 60 degrees F in warmer areas - for example, where the winter ground water is 60 degrees F and with the output set at 122 degrees F - the T-K3 will provide a 5.4 GPM, or 324 GPH. In colder areas where the input temperature may be 40 degrees F or less, expect a flow rate about 4.1 GPM, or 246 GPH.

th2The T-H2 model is available in either Direct Vent (only) or Outdoor (only) models. Takagi's T-H2 "2nd Generation High Efficiency Tankless" unit, is one of the most energy efficient tankless units (up to 95% in thermal efficiency estimated) in the Tankless industry.  The T-H2 was designed for residential and light commercial use and offers Easy-Link and much more.

The T-H2, Takagi's greenest model, is the 2nd Generation High Efficiency Tankless unit with an average efficiency of 92% with natural gas (estimated) and 95% with propane (estimated). At a ∆T of 60ºF in warmer areas - where the winter ground water is 60ºF and with the output set at 120ºF - the unit will provide 6.1 GPM, or 366GPH. In other areas where the input temperature may be 40ºF or less, you can expect a flow rate of about 4.6 GPM or 276 GPH.

The T-H2 can provide at least three showers' worth of water simultaneously along with one appliance at input temperature of 60ºF or greater.

The T-H2 can be vented with PVC, providing 0 clearance for DV installations. PVC venting can be used in all applications and 3" exhaust venting is coming soon. This state-of-the-art tankless water heater uses not one, but two heat exchangers to maximize the unit’s energy efficiency, resulting in the higher-than-average efficiencies stated above. The primary heat exchanger is made of "Heat Resistant Alloy" HRS35 Copper, Takagi has also added a "High Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel" #316L secondary heat exchanger to recover waste heat from the vent stack before it leaves the unit to preheat the incoming ground water. This second heat exchanger and the resulting condensation that forms from the high efficiency operation, classify it as a "Condensing" Water Heater.

With a variable gas input up from 13,000 Btu/h to 199,000 Btu/h and with its high efficiency, the T-H2 can deliver 9.0 gallons (Max.) of hot water per minute under ideal conditions and when you Easy-Link 4 units together you can produce up to 36GPM (Max.) as a result, the unit will meet the needs of large homes, as well as light commercial and industrial applications. Able to deliver water up to 185ºF, the T-H2 is appropriate for sanitary applications needing 180ºF water to meet code requirements.

The T-H2 features sixteen temperature presets for flexibility of installation. To achieve any temperature other than the sixteen presets, the user will require the TM-RE30 temperature controller
